What are OG and Twitter Card tags?
When a link is shared on LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp, Facebook or Slack, the platform reads Open Graph (og:) and Twitter Card meta tags from the page’s <head> to build the preview card: the title, description and image people see before they click. Set them well and a shared link looks like a designed post instead of a bare URL.
Good sizes
- Image: 1200×630 px for a large card. Smaller or oddly shaped images get cropped.
- Title: around 60 characters, so it is not cut off.
- Description: roughly 110–160 characters; the first line matters most.
Notes
- WhatsApp and most chat apps use the same og: tags, so this one set covers them.
- The image must be reachable at a public https URL; a local or private image will not show.
- Platforms cache previews. After you change the tags, use the platform’s own debugger (for example LinkedIn Post Inspector) to refresh.
The preview and tags are built in your browser; only the image you point to is loaded from its own address.
